Is there any informationa about the badges we're seeing next to some people's pages? Namely, what are they and how do we get them?
Nah, click danny's portrait. He's got a "3,571"-badge, and even though you joined before him - it seems like an awfully strange number to make that kind of cutoff.
He is a very prolific poster so far, both on the 'Pedia and in the forums. Maybe it has something to do with that?
Hell, maybe it's the amount of XP you (and I, and danny, respectively) have earned! ::))

done: 199 and 3571 are both prime numbers! 3571 is the 500th 199 is the 46th (if you dont count 1) 199 and 3571 are both Lucas numbers: http://tinyurl.com/2am6ssm
I believe that badges and ranks may be, at least in part, moderated.
About the badge with the numbers: If you look at the badge file names, you'll see that there is a "rank" embedded in it. They seem to start with 01 and go up to 06, the same applies to other badges and to avatar frames. The 199 badge appears to be rank 04 and the 3/571 one is 03. I looked at the other four ranks of that badge and.. well, let's say, the meaning is not immediately apparent to me...
That's probably true; I'm pretty sure the one that both danny and I have is for Citizen Service (check the filename); I have no idea how you could properly do that with an algorithm.
Some of the justified ancient badges are pretty obvious. But a couple are just plain obscure, like the numbers one.

Ok, here are the ranks: 1: 103,682 2: 15,127 3: 3,571 4: 199 5: Beta 6: Alpha
If alpha and beta are indications, it would indeed seem that the badges indicate which herd you belong to. This seem to be supported by the fact that most (all?) Justified ancients have Alpha badges.
OTOH they don't seem to be automatically awarded. Or could it be that you won't get the badge until your herd is "full". That would mean that the bronze badge (or is it copper?) isn't awarded until we have 15,127 users.
ha, knowing these guys, they probably put these numbers in just to see how crazy the theories would get. I'm going to go with...people with badges are the ones they're going to track down and throw into a large tub of chocolate mousse.
If that is the case, I am glad I like Chocolate ;-)
Glad to see you 've got a badge now ;)
I did some poking around, looking at random citizen's pages. I learned a few things about the numbered shields:
- It doesn't appear to be related to citizen level. I saw both Citizen I and Citizen II with the same badge.
- It doesn't appear to be point (the number that shows up on your page) related as I saw people with badges with very small numbers and reasonably big numbers. This implies that it has nothing to do with activity on the site.
I'm sure the cabal is sitting back and chuckling as we all try to figure this one out.
The good news is that I don't have a badge yet, so I won't be thrown into the chocolate. Or is that bad news?
Mine went from 3,571 yesterday to 199 today.
I suspect it is, if only because 199 has gold edges while 3,571 has silver.
Not sure where else to mention this, but I went and viewed source of the user pages, and the number below the shield is described as 'rep', very likely short for 'reputation.' Currently, mine is 20 (and i'm a 199 shield), Danny's is 139 and Sicarius' is 72 (and they're 3,571 shields).
Oh, and 199 and 3571 are Not Fibonacci numbers.

on that note, Citizen levels do not seem to be related to the rep you see under badges - I'm a Citizen II with 72 while Ibn_al-Hazardous is a Citizen III with 21. More mystery in the rankings :)

Shae has the same shield as danny and I, with 9 rep. So I still don't know how that all works...
